Original Survivor Car From The Sixtes

History

In late 1964 this car had a non-running engine and was sitting in a garage in Salona, PA.  The owner of the garage wanted it removed.  The car owner was his son "Speed" who was in the Army at the time.  The car was offered to a friend of Speed's by the name of Jack Sampsel for $50 and he got it out of there.  Jack wanted to make it a drag car and run it in the class of "gassers" that was very popular at the time.  The photos on this page show the evolution of the car through out the years.  There was a time from the late '70s until 2010 that the car sat dormant.  Today it runs again in all it's former glory with the South East Gassers and South East Gassers Texas Style.

More of the story

Jack's son Rusty who is the small boy in many of the pictures now owns and drives the car.  He was able to give his dad one last ride in the car while he was still alive in 2011.   Jack passed away in 2013 and his body was creamated.  Rusty made a container and placed some of Jack's ashes inside the frame rail of the car.  Now Jack rides along on every run.
